E J Bachelet (1892 - French 1981)

Born in Nancy on 2nd January 1892, Bachelet was soon to make the move to Paris to study sculpture in depth and in his work we can see this training combining with a natural affinity for the medium. He began exhibiting at the Salon des Aristes Francais in 1920 and was awarded a gold medal at the Exposition des Art Decoratifs in 1925 for his bas-relief in the Nancy Pavillion. A Societaire of the Salon d’Automne, he exhibited at the Salon from 1926 to 1938, specialising in busts, small groups, figures and animal studies, many of which were also reproduced in terra cotta and porcelain. He also exhibited at the Nationale, becoming an associate in 1929 and a member in 1933. His best known works are of female figures - Pieta, Danseuse and Foal. A large selection of his work remains today in the Muesuem of Nancy his home town and also in the Musuem of Epinal
