V J Keegan
VJ Keegan was born in 1980 in London. Between 1998 and 2002 she trained at Central St. Martin's in London and then under Charles Cecil in Florence. The rigorous controlled approach that is the hallmark of Charles Cecil shines through her work, and has allowed her to unite a thorough understanding of draftsmanship with the application of paint. After Florence she set up as a portrait painter based in London, but travelling extensively to complete commissions. She has worked in France, Spain, Argentina, and Ireland as well as the United Kingdom.
In 2005 a simple colour study of a pot started a process that was turned into an obsession by a ride to a ruined farm in the hills of the north of England. The house had been abandoned fifty years before: the table was laid but the occupants had never returned for their lunch: trying to capture the everyday objects set in the decay of the ruin was the motivation to attempt the discipline of still life.
