The Sladmore is one of the world's leading sculpture galleries with over 40 years' experience in supplying fine bronzes from 1850 to the present day. We are specialists in works by the renowned sculptor Rembrandt Bugatti.
The gallery has its origins in a private collection of nineteenth century bronze animal sculpture, assembled by Jane Horswell in the mid 1960’s at Sladmore Farm in Buckinghamshire.
Since 1980, under the direction of Edward Horswell, the Sladmore has increasingly exhibited works by important impressionist and modern sculptors. Artists featured from the late nineteenth century include Rodin, Dalou and Degas and from the early twentieth century modern masters such as Maillol, Bourdelle and Bernard.
In the wake of Rembrandt Bugatti a vibrant school of impressionist animal sculpture emerged, many of whom found inspiration at the Antwerp Zoo, for example: Paul Jouve, Albéric Collin, and Josue Dupon. Others such as Francois Pompon, Edouard-Marcel Sandoz and Theophile Steinlen were based in Paris where the influence of the modern movement was reflected more strongly in their sculpture.
We continue to stock a range of sculpture by leading nineteenth century animalier sculptors, including works by Antoine Louis Barye, Emmanuel Fremiet, Pierre Jules Mêne, Isidore Bonheur and John Willis Good.
A representative selection of works by all these sculptors are always on show at the Jermyn Street Gallery, where regular exhibitions are mounted.
